With the advent of home theatre and enormous flat screen TVs, there has certainly been a decline in the number of people who regularly visit the cinema in Wales. Indeed all over the world, movie attendance numbers have dropped, and there are several reasons why this might be.
To begin with, it's possible to experience a lot of what we get from the cinema in the comfort of our own homes. Even 3D movies, which were re-invented to give people reasons to go to the cinema, can now be watched in your lounge, on your very own 3D tvs.
In addition, movie tickets are expensive. In the wake of the global economic crisis, when neither the people of Wales nor any other population have money to spend on frivolities, regular trips to the cinema simply won't fit into many budgets.
Could it be, too, that films these days are not quite as exciting as they used to be? Indeed, many people suggest they feel they have already seen the movies that come on circuit. This is because most reduplicate plot lines and even actors from pictures that came before them, and entire remakes are not uncommon either.
In short, there are numerous reasons to explain the decline of the cinema. Most prominent among these is perhaps the availability of quality home theatre equipment and DVDs. However, the financial depression has played a role as well, and so too has the general standard of films being made today.
